Privacy Policy for Our Encrypted Note App

At EncryptedNote, privacy isn't just a feature—it's our core mission. This privacy policy explains how we handle your data when you use our private notes app.

Information We Collect

We collect as little as possible:

  • Encrypted Note Content: We store only the encrypted version of your private notes. We cannot access or read the actual content.
  • Note Metadata: We store creation time, expiration settings, and view counts to manage the self-destructing notes functionality.
  • Standard Server Logs: Our servers automatically collect basic request information like IP addresses and user agents. These logs are kept for a maximum of 7 days for security and debugging purposes.

What We Don't Collect

  • Personal information (our private notes app doesn't have user accounts)
  • Decryption keys (these are only shared between the sender and recipient)
  • Unencrypted note content
  • Tracking cookies or analytics that identify individual users
  • Email addresses or contact information

How End-to-End Encryption Works

All encryption and decryption happens directly in your browser using the XChaCha20-Poly1305 algorithm. Your unencrypted private notes never leave your device. The decryption key is generated client-side and is never transmitted to our servers, ensuring true end-to-end encryption.

Data Retention for Temporary Notes

Private notes are automatically deleted from our servers when:

  • They reach their view limit (e.g., after being viewed once)
  • They reach their expiration time as temporary notes
  • They have been stored for the maximum allowed time (30 days, even if the user selected "never" expire)

Third-Party Services

We use Firebase for data storage. Firebase is subject to Google's privacy policy. We configure our Firebase instance to collect the minimum amount of information necessary to provide our secure notes app.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any significant changes by posting a notice on our encrypted notes app website.
